Top five family cars due to arrive in 2018

Once the festive season is over, you might start to consider upgrading the family car to help kick off the New Year. So, to give you some inspiration, we’ve put together a quick top five list of family cars that are due to arrive in Australia next year, including some that have just arrived.

Holden Commodore

When it comes to family cars the Holden Commodore has been one of this country’s favourites for decades now. Its big, friendly cabin instantly warms to you, and the level of standard features is usually a deal-maker alone. In February 2018 Holden will launch its all-new model. And for the first time it won’t be Australian-made. Nope. This time it’s coming from Europe, and with that we can expect European levels of refinement, driving dynamics, and smart technologies. It won’t be quite as massive as the Commodore you may know, but it will remain in the large car class in Australia.

Hyundai Santa Fe

Hyundai will launch the all-new Santa Fe next year, bringing a fresh design and a new platform to the popular seven-seat SUV. It will also package in new standards for technology and safety, with a more advanced touch-screen media interface to keep everyone entertained. The Santa Fe is one of the most popular large seven-seat SUVs in Australia, and with the new model, sales are expected to go through the roof. If Hyundai's other recently updated models are anything to go by – such as the new i30 – this will be one to look out for.

Lexus RX L

Buying a seven-seat SUV these days can be quite frustrating, simply because there are a number of options out there but they are usually of rugged 4x4 quality with gruff, heavy-duty diesel engines. This is where the Lexus RX L comes in. Lexus hasn't officially offered a seven-seat version of the RX in Australia before, but coming February, this will change. Lexus will be offering the RX 350L and RX 450hL in Australia, both featuring a unique rear body design with two extra seats in the back. The company claims the seats will offer class-leading accommodation and space, with seperate climate control and cup holders. If you’re in the market for a relaxing seven-seat SUV that soothes your day with every drive, this will definitely be one to look out for.

Toyota Camry

It’s difficult to talk about family cars without mentioning the humble Toyota Camry. And, coincidentally enough, Toyota has just launched the all-new model in Australia. We shouldn’t label it as ‘humble’ anymore though, as it has grown in size and it wears a very flash body design. Toyota has worked really hard on improving refinement inside, and it is easy to see the company has well and truly succeeded on that brief. The new model is huge, making it super comfortable for all passengers. Material quality and fit and finish is also at a Lexus-like level, and Toyota has boosted in-car connectivity and made big advances in safety technology. Needless to say, this is the most complete and most comprehensive Camry generation there has ever been.

The all-new BMW X3 has just arrived in Australia and boy does it tick a lot of family car must-have boxes. For the new model BMW has made the cabin more practical by opening up new storage spaces, adding more USB ports so everyone can keep their devices charged, and improved visibility so it’s easier to see out of, in all directions. Based on the company’s latest rear-wheel drive platform, which is used on higher end models such as the 5 Series, means it is very comfortable for all passengers. Driving is also a pleasure, especially if you opt for the xDrive30d option with its silky smooth inline six diesel engine capable of providing 600Nm of family-hauling torque.
